Microwave - Broccoli with Oyster Sauce, & what to do with stems?
Veggies can really benefit with some of the oriental seasonings - oyster sauce, soy sauce, etc. Oyster sauce really adds a wonderful flavor to all kinds of veggies, but especially to broccoli. This simple dish is terrific with any fish dish. Mix it with cooked brown rice and you have a totally new dish to add to your recipe file. Try the chili powder stems ... they go really well with any Mexican food you're cooking!
1# broccoli, save the stems for another dish
1/4 C. water
1/3 C. prepared oyster sauce
Soak the broccoli in water for 5 minutes. Drain.
Put the broccoli and the 1/4 cup of water in a 2-quart casserole. Cover. Microwave on high 5-8 minutes, until tender enough to pierce with fork, stirring twice. Let stand, covered, 2 minutes. Drain. Spread with oyster sauce. Serve.
Have you tried cooked broccoli stems with chili powder? Microwave with a bit of water for about 6 minutes, drain well, sprinkle with chili powder and a couple of tablespoons of butter, stir well, serve. They are mighty tasty!
